How to prepare for the Terraform Associate

This article would like to describe how I prepared for the HashiCorp Certified Terraform Associate exam. Compared to other cloud exams, like AWS solution architect, this exam is much easier, with a smaller scope. But still have to study all the details and commands, and I recommend getting some hands-on experience.

Before the exam preparation, I worked a little bit with Terraform here and there on smaller projects, created some Terraform files. Still, I had limited knowledge of how everything works and what is possible with all the Terraform features. So I decided to do the exam to learn Terraform’s basic features and commands and get more familiar with all the details.

About the Exam

The exam is online (proctored), and it takes one hour. There are 57 questions with a mix of multiple choices (only one correct answer) and “fill in the blanks” questions. After submitting the exam, you get the result immediately.

A good starting point is the study guide by HashiCorp that gives a detailed list of what to learn and provides tutorial videos for most of the topics.
